You’ve seen it at every Guardian and Watson’s, it’s been recommended by aunties and beauty influencers alike, and the bright orange packaging is instantly recognisable. But with so many K-Beauty and international options now available in Malaysia, is SAFI actually worth your money? We took a deep dive into their most popular product lines.

What Is SAFI?

SAFI is a Malaysian halal-certified beauty brand owned by Wipro Unza. It was specifically formulated for Malaysian skin — brown to olive skin tones, oily to combination skin types, and the challenges that come with tropical weather. That positioning alone makes it worth paying attention to. A brand designed for your skin type and climate should theoretically outperform products engineered for a completely different market.

SAFI Rania Gold Moisturising Cream

Price: Approximately RM25–35 | Rating: 3.5/5

The Rania Gold range is SAFI’s premium line, featuring gold-infused formulations for brightening and anti-ageing. The moisturising cream has a medium-weight texture that works well for normal to dry skin in air-conditioned environments. For daily outdoor use in Malaysian heat, it’s slightly too heavy — you’ll feel it sitting on your skin by midday.

Verdict: Good for night use or for those who spend most of the day indoors. Not ideal as a daily outdoor moisturiser.

SAFI Perfect White Facial Wash

Price: Approximately RM12–18 | Rating: 4/5

One of SAFI’s bestsellers and for good reason. The foam cleanser is gentle, effective, and leaves skin clean without the tight, stripped feeling that cheaper cleansers often cause. The brightening claim is mild — don’t expect dramatic results — but as a daily cleanser, this is genuinely good value for the price.

Verdict: A solid everyday cleanser. One of the best RM15 face washes you can buy in Malaysia.

SAFI Derma Expert Acne Solution Serum

Price: Approximately RM38–48 | Rating: 3/5

The acne serum contains salicylic acid and niacinamide — two well-regarded actives for acne-prone skin. The concentration of both appears to be on the lower side, which means results are gentler than what you’d get from a dedicated BHA product. Good for maintenance and mild breakouts. Not suitable for persistent or severe acne.

Verdict: Fine for mild acne maintenance, but those with active breakouts may need something stronger.

SAFI Balqis Whitening Cleanser

Price: Approximately RM14–20 | Rating: 4.5/5

The Balqis range remains one of SAFI’s most popular and the cleanser earns it. It’s creamy, gentle, and leaves skin noticeably softer. The whitening effect refers more to brightening and evening skin tone than any bleaching effect — be clear-eyed about this. But as a moisturising cleanser for normal to dry skin, it’s excellent.

Verdict: One of the best products in SAFI’s range. Particularly good for those with dry or sensitive skin.

Where SAFI Falls Short

• Fragrance: Several SAFI products are noticeably fragranced. For sensitive skin or those following a fragrance-free routine, this can be an issue.
• Whitening marketing: The brand leans heavily into skin whitening messaging. For those who’ve moved past this in their beauty philosophy, the packaging and marketing can feel dated.
• Competitive pressure: At RM35–45 for a serum, SAFI is competing with Korean brands like Some By Mi and The Ordinary — both of which offer clinically-backed concentrations of actives at similar or lower prices.

Where SAFI Wins

• Availability: Every major pharmacy and supermarket in Malaysia stocks SAFI. Convenience matters.
• Halal certification: For consumers who prioritise halal-certified beauty, SAFI is one of the most trusted Malaysian brands.
• Local climate formulation: Products are genuinely designed with tropical skin in mind.
• Entry-level price point: The cleansers and basic moisturisers represent excellent value.

Final Verdict: Is SAFI Worth It?

Yes — with caveats. SAFI’s cleansers and basic skincare are excellent value and genuinely well-formulated for Malaysian skin. Their premium serum and treatment lines face stiffer competition from Korean and Western brands at the same price point. Our recommendation: buy the cleanser, skip the serum unless the Halal certification is specifically important to you.
